Fitspo for the Frank, Funny & Fabulous: Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide

October 26, 2017

If you are an active female between the ages of 15 and 40, you’ve likely heard of Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Guide (BBG). BBG is a 12-week program comprised of high intensity interval training circuits, that include a combination of resistance and plyometric exercises. Each week has 3 different workouts, made up of 2 circuits to be repeated for 7 minutes, 2 times each. These workouts add up to 28 minutes of exercise, three times per week. On top of these circuits, she recommends LISS (Low Intensity Steady State) or HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) cardio, depending on how far along in the guide you are, on the alternating days. Kayla's frequently posted “Before & After” Instagrams of clients and the BBG Army are nothing shy of astounding, and her workouts are no joke. In fact, I’ve personally enjoyed the BBG program so much, that I’ve completed it at least 3 different times. In addition, BBG requires minimal equipment, making it a great program for people on the go. With its accessibility and unprecedented results, BBG is one of a kind.

Furthermore, not only are these workouts easily accessible and can serve as an entry point into fitness for newbies, they get progressively more challenging as you continue through the guides, preventing you from ever plateauing. My favorite feature of the BBG program is that the circuits are grouped into 6 general levels that mirror each other: weeks 1 & 3, weeks 2 & 4, weeks 5 & 7, weeks 6 & 8, weeks 9 & 11 and weeks 10 & 12. Because the workouts in weeks 1 & 3 are the same, for example, progress is evident and easy to track simply by seeing your ability to complete the same workouts improve as you progress through the guide.

Similar to Tone It Up, Kayla Itsines has developed a community of active, passionate, and empowering women online and offline, dedicated to motivating each other to be the strongest, most confident women possible. Whether sharing personal stories of fitness success or connecting for meet-ups around the world, this fitness entrepreneur has fostered a community that propels one another to success and confidence every day. That is amazing.

Maybe it’s my propensity for a quick yet challenging sweat sesh, or maybe it's my own personal progress using the guides (they’ve definitely gotten me into my best shape consistently), but Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide is hands down my favorite go-to workout. To be clear, I have only used her PDF E-book Guide; I have not used her subscription-based Sweat App (her latest business endeavor). I can guarantee, however, you won’t be disappointed with either program. Whether you're a gym rat or just getting started with a set of dumbbells in your living room, BBG is achievable, effective, and a great opportunity to enlist your fitfam for a confidence-boosting and united fitness journey.
